We recommend that businesses take several measures to minimize false alarms, including updating fire safety risk assessments, logging and analysing false alarms to identify patterns, and installing modern, upgraded alarm systems.

Clear information sharing between businesses and Alarm Receiving Centres (ARC) can help to ensure that premises continue to receive a fast response to confirmed fires. During testing and maintenance, inform your Alarm Receiving Centre before system testing to avoid triggering unnecessary responses.

Protective covers on manual call points, regular maintenance of fire detection systems, seeking advice from fire safety professionals and alarm system providers are also suggested.
