About the Scheme

The Summer Internship Scheme is aimed at 18-year-old residents of Berkshire who are from ethnic groups that are currently under-represented within our Service.

You can find out more about why we have launched this scheme in the FAQs document. It is a paid internship and gives young people a fantastic opportunity to begin to develop their workplace skills and discover the opportunities available in a modern fire and rescue service, at the stage when they may be beginning to think about their future careers.

Interns from the 2023 cohort use the hoses with Firefighters from Slough.

Through a tailored programme of activity, as well as career development workshops and learning sessions, the short-term summer internship supports interns in gaining transferable skills and real-world experience for their future education or career ambitions, whatever these may be.
