At 10:33am on Thursday, 12 May, we received reports of a fuel spillage on the M4 westbound between Junction 12 and Junction 13.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service crews from Caversham Road Fire Station, Whitley Wood Fire Station and Theale Community Fire Station were sent to the scene, alongside one RBFRS Officer.
Upon arrival, crews found a large fuel spillage affecting the motorway.
Crews assisted partners on scene and were on the scene for approximately 1 hour before handing the incident over to Thames Valley Police and National Highways.
The M4 is currently closed westbound between Junction 12 and Junction 13 and is expected to be for some time. Please avoid the area where possible. Thank you for your patience.

Two lanes remain closed on the M4 westbound between Junction 12 and Junction 13. One lane has now re-opened but traffic will be moving slowly. Thank you for your continued patience while this incident is being dealt with.

All lanes are now open on the M4 westbound between Junction 12 and Junction 13. The Junction 13 westbound exit is also open following emergency resurfacing. Thank you again for your patience.
