Are you planning a clear out of unwanted items from your wardrobe this New Year? You can recycle them at your local fire station and help raise funds for The Fire Fighters Charity at the same time.
The Fire Fighters Charity is the UK’s leading provider of services that enhance quality of life for serving and retired fire service personnel and their families. Its vision is to make a positive difference by supporting people in the fire and rescue community when they are in need.
Suitable items for recycling include; adult and children’s clothing (including underwear, socks and coats), paired shoes, handbags and bed linen. Textile recycling banks are situated at the following Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) fire stations:
Dee Road, Reading
Wokingham Road, Reading
Whitley Wood, Reading (Whitley Wood Lane)
Newbury (Hawthorn Road)
Pangbourne (Horseshoe Road)
Crowthorne (High Street)
Ascot (Station Hill)
Lambourn (Newbury Street)
Maidenhead (Bridge Road)
Langley (London Road)
Wargrave (Victoria Road)
Windsor (Tinkers Lane)
Mortimer (West End Road)
Money raised from recycling textiles will go to help The Fire Fighters Charity provide a range of services, including therapy and rehabilitation for injured firefighters.
Watch Manager, Sarah Cuthbert, who works for the Thames Valley Fire Control Service and is RBFRS’s volunteer charity co-ordinator, said: “The Fire Fighters Charity is a vital resource that can help fire service personnel in their time of need. They provide a wide range of services that simply cannot be replaced but they rely on donations to operate. Recycling old clothes and textiles is a really simple way to help a great cause and get rid of some unwanted clutter at the same time.
“The charity will be awarding a trophy to the fire station that raises the most money, so why not help your local firefighters by donating what you can!”
The recycling competition runs throughout January 2017 but textile donations can be made via the recycling banks at any time.
