At 11.08am on Friday 21 July, Thames Valley Fire Control Service received reports of a fire in a field near Upper Lambourn, Hungerford.
An Oxfordshire Fire and Rescue Service crew from Wantage Fire Station was sent to the scene together with an Officer from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The fire affected a muck heap of around 2000 tonnes. Crews were on scene for about one hour and a half as they assisted the farmer in creating firebreaks to allow the fire to burn in a controlled way.
Station Manager Steve Beard who attended the incident said: “Although the incident has been brought under control, the fire caused a heavy smoke plume in the area which may persist over the next few days.
“Our advice to people living nearby is not to be alarmed and to keep their windows closed if they feel they are affected.”
