As the after effects of Storm Dennis are felt across the Country, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) has repeated calls not to drive through potentially dangerous flood water.
RBFRS crews tackled a number of incidents over the weekend, including several where drivers had become stuck as they made journeys.
We were called by Thames Valley Police on 5.13am on Monday, 17 February to assist with an incident in Mill Lane, Sindlesham.
Firefighters from Wokingham Road, Wokingham, Whitley Wood and the Water Rescue Unit from Caversham Road Fire Station were sent to the scene. Firefighters rescued one man from the water using water rescue equipment. Crews were on scene for about three hours.
At 7.06am on Monday, 17 February, we received reports of a vehicle stuck in flood water on Wasing Lane, Aldermaston.
A RBFRS crew from Mortimer was sent to the scene, alongside a crew from Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
One person had been towed out of the water prior to the arrival of our crews, so firefighters made sure the person didn’t require any further assistance before returning to the station. Crews were on scene for about 30 minutes.
Over the course of the weekend, crews were also called to two incidents in Mortimer where drivers had got into difficulty in flood water, but fortunately they were safe by the time crews arrived.
If flooding does occur in your area, be careful while driving – just 30cm of flood water can make your car float.
If a road is flooded, turn around and find another route – it’s not worth the risk.
