Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is running a series of open sessions to help potential applicants decide if it’s the career for them.
With our recruitment window set to open soon, this is an ideal opportunity for candidates to come along to find out more about the role, the application process and what life as a Firefighter is like.
Those that do not know much about the fire service at the moment are welcome to attend. These sessions have been designed to give anyone a flavour of the role – whether they’ve thought about it before or not.
All sessions are free to attend, but please note that they may be subject to change based on operational requirements.
Overview of the sessions
RBFRS is offering four sessions, which will be held both online and at our fire stations across Berkshire.
Candidates are welcome to attend the session that is most convenient for them. We would encourage them to attend one session from each of the below to obtain a thorough overview of the role and what the recruitment process involves. However, it is not mandatory to attend all sessions.
- Session 1 – About the role. This session will run online between 16-20 November. Whilst there is no typical day in this job, this session will provide you with an overview of the role of a modern Firefighter and what training is provided to successful applicants.
- Session 2 – About the process. This session will run online between 21-23 November. Firefighting is a popular career option, so this session is designed to give you all you need to know about the recruitment process and how you can give yourself the best possible chance of success.
- Session 3 – Station visits and demonstrations. This session will run at fire stations between 27 November – 1 December. In the third session, you will have an opportunity to visit a local fire station, meet some of our Firefighters and see how they put some of their training into practice.
- Session 4 – Have a Go events. This session will run at fire stations between 3-9 December. This is an opportunity to try some of the physical tests, practice the techniques and ask questions on how to best prepare to become a Firefighter.
If anyone would like to join our sessions, they must please fill in this online form to register.
