Apply Now to Become a Wholetime Firefighter

Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) is now accepting applications for new Wholetime Firefighter Apprentices.

Recruitment opened on Monday, 8 July, and applications will be accepted until 11:59pm on Monday, 29 July. Find our more and apply on our website.

The role of a Firefighter is varied and, as well as responding to a range of incidents, the role includes providing fire safety advice and engaging with local communities through events, educational activities and campaigns.

As with previous wholetime recruitment, anyone, from any background or walk of life can apply to be a Firefighter Apprentice, so long as they are new to the role. This could be someone at the beginning of their career, those returning to work after a career break or those looking for a change of career later in life.

Paul Bremble, Area Manager at RBFRS, said: “We are excited to be recruiting our next cohort of Wholetime Firefighter Apprentices. So far, more than 50 apprentices have joined the Service over the last three years and are now working at fire stations across the county to keep Berkshire safe.

“We’re looking for people who want to make a difference in their communities in a new and fulfilling career. It was great to see so many people attend our recent “Discover a Career as a Firefighter” sessions, but we would encourage people that haven’t considered the fire and rescue service as a career before to visit our website and find out more.”

The successful applicants will complete a residential training course lasting at least seven weeks, followed by approximately six  weeks training at fire stations across Berkshire. They will then be placed at a fire station where their development on the apprenticeship will continue as part of a Watch.
