Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service (RBFRS) hosted their latest Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub Event, which took place on Friday, 26 July 2024, at Maidenhead Fire Station.
The Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub events are open to all veterans, their dependants and carers, along with serving personnel who are always welcome. The hubs offer a relaxed place for veterans to drop in and enjoy the company of others who have served, over some light refreshments. They also provide a way to gain advice, support and services under one roof.
At this event, attendees were able to speak to a range of organisations and charities that support the armed forces community, including SSAFA (Soldiers’ Sailor’s & Airmen’s Families Association), Help for Heroes, Royal Navy Association, Royal Air Force Association, Windsor and Maidenhead Social Prescribing Service, Models for Heroes and South East Reserve Forces and Cadets Association.
Paul Brooks, Head of Assets, Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, and Armed Forces Champion said: “It was a real pleasure to host this event at Maidenhead Fire Station.”
“At Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service, we are committed to supporting our armed forces community, and hosting the Hub events is just one of the ways we are fulfilling our commitment, whilst also meeting some fantastic people along the way. It is important that we as a Service continue to show our gratitude and support to those who have served in the forces.”
“I would also like to extend my gratitude to the organisations that supported us and the RBFRS staff, whose hard work ensures that these events can take place regularly, creating a valuable community space to share advice and socialise.”
The Armed Forces Veterans’ Hub was launched in the Royal County of Berkshire on 7 November 2020 following receipt of the Gold Award in the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme. This affirms the Fire Authority and Service’s ongoing commitment to the Armed Forces community.
The next Veterans’ Hub will be hosted at Newbury Fire Station on 8 November.
