Whitley Wood Fire Station

Whitley Wood Fire Station was opened in 1992, close to one of the largest housing estates in Reading.

The specialist station trains firefighters to hold a diverse range of skills, including working at height and water rescue, as well as responding to hazardous materials, terrorist and radioactive incidents.

To support these roles, the station is home to a number of specialist vehicles including an Aerial Ladder Platform, off-road forklifts and vehicles designed to convey equipment to complex and protracted incidents.

A Volvo FL8 fire engine operates at the station and is housed next to a Dennis Sabre fire engine, used by the Service’s Young Firefighters programme.

Crews at Whitley Wood pride the station as being a community asset as it serves as a centre for fire safety education, activity meetings, youth group visits and is a one-stop information resource for those wanting assistance with staying safer in their homes.
