Safe Spaces Initiative
The murder of Sarah Everard in March 2021 prompted fire and rescue services, national retail outlets and other public services, to offer their buildings as ‘Safe Spaces’ providing a refuge to members of the public who may feel afraid, vulnerable or harassed.
People have the right to feel safe, regardless of location or time, and anyone who feels afraid, lost or harassed should be encouraged to knock on the door of their local fire station.
Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service’s premises are a safe space.
We will offer you a place where you can receive information about helpful organisations. Fire stations will display a poster bearing information and contact details for organisations who can help.
The Safe Space initiative will offer people who may feel afraid, harassed or under immediate threat a ‘safe space’ where they can receive signposting to helpful organisations and/or a safeguarding referral can be made.
