Values and Culture in Fire and Rescue Services
Recommendation 23:
By 1 June 2023, chief fire officers should seek regular feedback from staff about values, culture, fairness and diversity, with due regard to the leading and developing people standard. They should show how they act on this feedback.
RBFRS action: During 2022, CFO held interactive staff sessions on line and in person to gain feedback. Senior leaders meet with staff regularly and the CFO sent letters to staff on the recent Culture reviews and media items, offering confidential meetings for staff to raise concerns with Directors. We record issues and actions for improvement.
We have consulted on our Purpose and Vision for the service, using staff feedback to inform both. We hold regular surveys for feedback and an annual staff survey. We hold leadership forums. We have an engagement roadmap used to plan surveys, engagement sessions and listening activities. We also maintain effective industrial relations to ensure representative bodies can raise employment related issues to management.
